I, Patricia Moran Wotton, am
running for Rockland City Council due to my commitment to work for the
best of the city.
I grew up in a very politically
oriented family. My grandfather Carl Moran had served in Congress and the
US House of Representatives as well as served as US Assistant Secretary
of Labor and State Director of the Office of Price Administration. In addition
he had authored the Charter and Ordinances for the City of Rockland
which had been used nationwide as a model. I was raised with an interest
in politics and community involvement from an early age, which led me to
run for City Council at age 28. I was perhaps the youngest Councilor to
serve the City. |
In the last 20 years I have
worked towards making Rockland a better place to work in various ways.
I co-founded the Rockland City Crime Watch, which still operates today.
I served three years, 1986-1989, on the City Council, as well as terms
on the Comprehensive Planning Committee and Personnel Board, and then many
years on the Planning Commission, both as a full and an alternate member.
I feel that the qualifications
that I can bring are my background in business, and experience on
City committees. I am dedicated, and will make a commitment
to doing my homework on the issues and decisions facing the council, so
that I can make informed decisions. The traits I bring to the position
which I feel are important are honesty and openness; I strongly support
the public’s right to know.
I am an agent/owner of E. C.
Moran Company, Inc., a family owned insurance agency. My great-grandfather
started the business in 1896. I am the fourth generation, a licensed insurance
agent, and have worked in the business for 24 years. I have earned the
Certified Insurance Councilor and Accredited Advisor in Insurance designations.
I am married to Sherwood Wotton, and have two children, Haley, age 10,
and Nikolai age 7. They are now in school full-time, allowing me more freedom
to devote time to the City.
My roots run deep in Rockland.
The direction that the City takes affects me as a businessperson, a parent,
and as an individual. I would like the opportunity and privilege
to serve the City as a Rockland City Councilor for the upcoming three year
term.
